Ladies’ Day is a comedy drama about four unlikely lasses from Hull who decide to take a day trip to the races.
Synopsis:
The play focusses on the friendship between four distinctly different women. Work, love and life are just one long, hard slog for the fish filleting foursome, Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda. But their fortunes are set to change when Royal Ascot is relocated to York.
The girls head off to the races on Ladies’ Day for a flirt, a flutter and some fun with a bottle of bubbly in tow. If their luck holds, they could hit the jackpot and more besides.
Four female characters
Pearl Mid 50s. A Fish Packer. Pearl is kind and generous, slightly better off than the others. She is married with four children and one grandson.
Jan Mid 40s. A Fish Packer. Jan is a single mum who is slightly dowdy and who saves every penny she earns for her daughter who is about to go to university.
Shelley Mid 30s. A Fish Packer. Shelley is a single gobby, brash woman who drinks too much. Dressing in a cheap and tarty fashion. She is a ‘wannabe.’ A good time girl and always on the lookout for a millionaire.
Linda Mid 30s. A Fish Packer. Also, single. Linda was brought up by her nan and is a huge Tony Christie fan. She is a quiet thoughtful woman who dresses conservatively. She is the opposite of Shelley.
