Tuesday, 26th August at El Bandil Bar, San Pedro

"Wife after Death" by Eric Chappell

Directed by Diana King.

It has been decided to stage 'Wife After Death' by Eric Chappell for our autumn production. Performance dates will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday 14th, 15th and 16th November.

Auditions will take place on Tuesday 26th August in El Candil Bar in San Pedro from 7.30pm onwards. Audition pieces will be available to study in advance. Please ask if you want them and let us know which character you are interested in and they will be emailed to you separately.

Time:7.30pm for 8pm start

Although we do not normally arrange any events for the summer months, we have decided to break with tradition this year and hold an outdoor unrehearsed play reading in one of our members' gardens.

We will be reading 'Fish out of Water' by Derek Benfield, which is a light hearted comedy set in a hotel on the Italian Riviera on a summer afternoon. There are parts to be read by 3 men and 4 women: including the outspoken, organising widow Agatha and her timid sister Fiona; Brigadier and Mrs. Hubback; Marissa, a strikingly pretty Italian girl; Julian the tour rep; and Mario, the young Italian hotel manager. All the drama of late flights, double bookings, foreign food, wine tasting and holiday romances on package holidays make for a fun filled evening's entertainment.

I am really pleased to be able to tell you all what a success this year's 'Lark in The Park' was on 1st June in Parque de Leonera, Benahavis. We managed to raise 2,000 euros for Cudeca. Printing costs were sponsored by Harris Insurance Spain. The presentation of the cheque was made on Tuesday 17th June at the Town Hall of Benahavis.
ITS gives 2,000 euros to Cudeca from Lark in the Park show The cheque presentation. From the left: Peter Letters, Carol Woolnoth (ITS president), Susan Hannam (Cudeca vice-president), Evelyn Harris from sponsors Harris Insurance and Eileen Audas (ITS treasurer).
At 13.00 on the 1st June, we went to set up as arranged and found ourselves sheltering from a tremendous downpour of rain and delayed the
decision to cancel or go ahead with the event until 15.00. Who could have foreseen the total change in the weather? We were delighted to be able to put on our show as planned. What a relief!

Play reading El Candil bar in San Pedro de Alcántara on Thursday, May 15th,
7.30pm for 8pm.

Dear Members of the International Theatre Studio,

We will be holding an unrehearsed play-reading at El Candil in San Pedro de Alcántara on Thursday, May 15th, 7.30pm for 8pm.
Everyone is welcome to attend and to read or not, as they wish.

AUDITION  NOTICE
The ITS are presenting their annual summer concert at El Parque de Leonora, Benahavis, on Sunday 1st June in the early evening. This will, as usual, be in two
parts. The show will open with a one-act play comprising the first half, followed by an interval and then a series of "variety" acts by individuals, with an MC in charge.

This audition notice is for the one-act play, a comedy called:

Kate Jackson would like to invite you to a Play Reading
on Tuesday April 8th at Bar El Candil, San Pedro at 7.30 for 8pm.

The play is called Side Effects a comedy by Eric Chappell,
writer of the Bafta Award winner Rising Damp.

Set in a Nursing home, we meet the Rev Paul Latimer who
since his recent

heart transplant is behaving very strangely, smoking,
drinking and swearing, not to mention clandestine canoodling, causing great
concern to his wife Sarah, a lady who sets great store by proper standards.

We also meet the miserable and cantankerous Frank, whose
long suffering wife June has booked him into the home to give herself a much
needed break.

Throw into the mix the attractive, mysterious Tracey, and
you have a recipe for mischief and mayhem.

We very much hope to see you all for an informal fun
evening, do come and bring your friends.

Alfonso will as always be offering Tapas following the
reading for 7 euros.

If you want to stay for tapas after the reading, you need
to let Wendy know in advance, so that we know the numbers to cater for.

We will be collecting the money for tapas when you arrive
for the reading from now on, as we had a number of people who booked tapas last
time but either did not come or did not stay to have them and we had to pay for
the extra food ordered, even though it was not eaten.
GIBRALTAR DRAMA FESTIVAL
18 - 22 MARCH 2014

"For the second time in three years the International Theatre Studio are competing in the Gibraltar Drama Festival (for one-act plays). In 2012 we earned plaudits for our production of "Happy Birthday Me" by Simon Williams, which won the award for Best Set and received a number of nominations for awards including that of Best Actress for Diane Clarke.

This year the International Theatre Studio are entering the Festival again with "Little Grimley Presents Strictly Sex Factor on Ice" by David Tristram. Some of you will have seen this very funny play presented by the International Theatre Studio as a rehearsed reading at Friends Restaurant last November. In the Festival, of course, it will be a full-blooded and formal performance.

The Festival runs from Tuesday 18th to Saturday 22nd of March at Ince's Hall (at the top of Main Street, Gibraltar). Each evening, from the Tuesday to the Friday, two or three plays will be performed in front of a UK-based adjudicator, (a theatre
professional). Performances start at 8pm. At the close of proceedings on the
Friday the adjudicator will announce his selection of three plays to be
performed on the Saturday, the Gala Night of the Festival. (In 2012, the
International Theatre Studio play was one of them).

At the Gala Night the adjudicator will announce the winners of a wide range of awards reflecting pre-eminence both on stage and back-stage. Obviously, the
International Theatre Studio will hope to feature again in the awards or at
least the nominations (Oscar-style!), but with eleven plays being put on, of
which nine are competitive, the challenge is - if not daunting - quite tough.

The ITS play is being performed, with two other plays, on Friday 21st March. If anyone would like to see it/them, would they contact Michael Clarke (952-928-196) or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Tickets are priced at £5 per head per night; and £10 per head for the Gala
Night.

Because of the border situation, anyone planning to attend should leave plenty of time to cross into Gibraltar and don't forget your passports.

This is the last newsletter that you will receive from me as President of the International Theatre Studio as I'm standing down from office at the AGM on Tuesday 11th February after four years in the "hot" seat. It has been both a pleasure and a privilege to lead our drama group during this time and I'm happy to report that we're still going from strength to strength with ever-larger audiences enjoying our plays and events. I shall be continuing as a member and will be happy to support the group in any way I can.

The first event of this year is to be a play reading at El Candil, San Pedro, on Thursday 20th February, 7.30 for 8pm, organised by Diana King. We will be reading a comedy that we hope to put on as a future production, so do come along and see what you think of it. If you would like to stay on for tapas after the reading, please let our Secretary, Wendy, know either my email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or by phone (951 19 31 14) by Friday 14th February. Anyone who wishes to read may do so and, as usual, this is a good way to socialise as a group and welcome anyone new who might wish to join us. Do come along and bring any friends who you think might be interested.

The main spring event is Peter Brooks' production of "The Anniversay" by Bill MacIlwraith, to be performed at the Atalaya Park Hotel disco on Friday 7th, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th March. This wicked comedy was filmed some years ago with Bette Davis as the controlling "mother-in-law from hell" and also starred Sheila Hancock in London's West End. Tickets (10€ for members, 12€ for non- members) will be available from next week and details of the selling outlets will be sent out in the next few days.

After the main Spring Production the International Theatre Studio will, once again, be represented at the annual Gibraltar Drama Festival. (You may remember that we took part two years ago and won the prize for Best Set Design and received several nominations for Best Actor and Director). This year our play will be David Tristram's comedy,"Strictly Sex Factor on Ice", which in November we performed as a rehearsed reading, with supper, in San Pedro. The festival runs from 18th to 21st March at Ince's Hall Theatre, Main Street, Gibraltar, and our play will be performed on the evening of Friday 21st March. Anyone who would like more details of the festival should contact me on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or on 952 92 81 96.

Before I sign off for the last time I'd like to express my thanks to all members of the ITS Board, both past and present, for their support and help in running our theatre group. In the last year, Vice Presidents Carol Woolnoth and Kate Jackson have been particularly supportive keeping the show on the road when I have been away and I know they will continue to give the ITS their full support.

I hope to see many of you at the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 11th February when a new President will be elected to carry the baton forward.

My very best wishes and thanks, too, to all of you for your support over the last four years.
